CERAMIC PRODUCTS

As the result of inherent properties that make the use of ceramics desirable in many applications, it is and has been a difficult material for efficient thermal process in its various stages of fabrication or industrial use.

The use of electromagnetic energy in the form of RF or Microwave has provided answers to selected ceramic process roadblocks not available from other heat sources or disciplines.  To many ceramic applications, it has delivered a level of performance and efficiency unparalleled by other heating methods.

The physics of electromagnetic heating provides for these results by heating dipolar molecules at the molecular level and at the location of each molecule.  Without relying on conduction to fully and uniformly heat the work piece, the immediate benefits are increased throughput and the efficient transfer of energy.

Other benefits are also available.  Through the ability to heat uniformly, drying applications involving unusual ceramic extrudate configurations can be dried quickly and evenly, prior to loss of shape, size or the compromise of structural properties.

Microwave or RF heat can also be used in conjunction with other heat sources, producing a synergy that is greater than the sum of its parts.  These synergies allow for ceramic process improvement in applications where neither electromagnetic nor conventional heat represents the best application solution as a stand-alone heating method.

Today, should your interest be in ceramic drying, curing, preheating or sintering, RF and Microwave offer unique solutions to your process needs.  Feel free to review select hardware developed for use in one or more of the above applications.  For assistance in selecting the appropriate system for your requirements, please contact one of our Application Engineers.
